Upgrading
If you have been using the "classic" Outlook client there are some things to know before you upgrade.
- CRM Together will support both the classic and new clients for the next year which will be July 2022 as of writing this. So there is no panic or rush to migrate.
- The new client requires SSL. This means that your CRM url must be using "https". Most browsers now really push this and as security is becoming a bigger issue by the day we think all our customers and partners should get this to secure their data in transit. Please check out our blog on this on our website Securing your Sage CRM
- The new client does not have any of the options(settings). We slimed things back for various reasons like things not being needed anymore and also as some were edge cases. This simplifies the setup and use of the system and makes it easier for end users to use.
- IIS Autologin is not supported in the new client and there are no plans to support this.
- For the Outlook 365 support Microsoft require that SSL is used.
- Appointments must be linked to CRM. We changed this so users explicitly decided what goes into CRM. This is related to user privacy. When sending an email the Accelerator buttons must be used so the user knows and decides that this email is going into CRM.
- Outlook Tasks are no longer linked at all to CRM from Accelerator. Please use the Sage CRM exchange tool for this.
- CRM Together host the core application which is a web application so we can update this at any time. The outlook client updates are easier to roll out and users will see a message to update the client. This is the same as on your mobile smartphone where it tells you an update for an app is needed. Users do not need admin permission to install the add in or its update. We believe this is a modern experience that users are used to now.
- Minor server updates will be available to apply via the CRM UI making it easier for changes to be rolled out.
- The new client looks different and it is a completley re-written software base. The UI is not quite the same as Sage CRM and has some UI differences.
